ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥ PEUGEOT SPORT
DEBUT OF THE 307 WRC AND INVESTMENT IN YOUTH
After four full World Rally Championship campaigns, including three consecutive years in which it dominated its rivals plus a 2003 season that saw it narrowly miss out on a fourth title, the 206 WRC is to hand over the baton to the 307 WRC in 2004.
With a total score of 24 wins and 41 podiums to its name, the 206 WRC marked rallying history by notching up one of the finest records of the sport's modern era. The new 307 WRC will take over from the beginning of the 2004 season in Monte Carlo, subject to the car's homologation by the FIA which is scheduled for January 1st 2004.
WRC:
- PEUGEOT TOTAL
Marcus Grnholm/Timo Rautiainen and Freddy Loix/Sven Smeets will drive the two 307 WRCs that will be entered for every round of the 2004 World Championship. However, the new FIA regulations allow teams the possibility of switching the crew of the second car and Peugeot Sport may consider using specialist drivers for certain events, in which case a third car will be entered for Freddy Loix.
The primary objective will be to retrieve the Manufacturers' title, while Marcus and Freddy will be free to defend their chances in the Drivers' championship.
- The 307 WRC
Peugeot's new challenger was driven for the first time exactly one year ago. Since then, an intensive test programme has been conducted on both gravel and asphalt. The development of the car has today reached a level that should allow it to defend Peugeot's colours in the face of strong opposition.
- NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ESA
Peugeot Sport is pleased to announce a new partnership contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) based on collaboration in fields of space industry-derived technology, including materials and simulation using ESA-developed software.
- INVESTMENT IN YOUTH
In addition to the official line-up, a number of promising young drivers will also benefit from a World Championship programme at the wheel of 2003-specification 206 WRCs run by Bozian Racing. They are:
- Frenchman Nicolas Vouilloz. Following his success in the French 206 Trophy in 2003 as well as an extremely encouraging one-off outing with a Super 1600 206 in November's Rallye du Var, the 27-year old has signed a two-year contract as works Peugeot driver. The programme of the former Mountain Bike Downhill World Champion kicks off with the forthcoming Monte Carlo Rally and includes a total of six events in 2004, plus eight in 2005.
- The team's second junior will be Sweden's Daniel Carlsson, 27, who finished 3rd in the 2003 FIA Junior World Championship. With support from his sponsor 'Olsberg', he will compete in a minimum of eight rounds this season, starting with the Swedish Rally, second round of the 2004 calendar.
- Peugeot Portugal driver, Miguel Campos, 29, who finished 2nd in the 2003 European Rally Championship, will start at least four events of the 2004 World Championship, beginning with January's Monte Carlo Rally.
A further addition to this list will be Henning Solberg brother of the 2003 World Champion if he succeeds in mounting a programme of seven rounds with support from his partners and Peugeot's Swedish importer.

FRENCH RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP:
Once again, two 206 XS Super 1600s will be entered in the French Rally Championship. Peugeot Sport continues its association with proven talent Cedric Robert and has also extended the programme of Bryan Bouffier, leading 'junior' in the 2002 French Peugeot 206 Trophy. The objective is victory in the French Manufacturers' Championship.

FRENCH PEUGEOT 206 TROPHY:
A promotional formula that forms the core of Peugeot Sport's rally driver grooming process in France, the 206 Trophy features a mixed-surface calendar that takes in rounds on both gravel and asphalt. The winner of the Promotion ('Espoir') category for drivers aged under 30 is rewarded by a works Peugeot Sport programme in the next category up the following year. Based on the Group A Peugeot 206 XS, it attracts some sixty contestants every year.
Drivers such as Cedric Robert, Nicolas Vouilloz, Alexandre Bengu, Nicolas Bernardi, Brice Tirabassi, Bryan Bouffier and Sebastien Loeb have all cut their teeth in this extremely competitive series.

RALLYE JEUNES:
This unique talent-scouting programme this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. Organised by the FFSA, France's motor sport governing body, in association with Automobiles Peugeot, it gives three youngsters aged between 18 and 25 a chance to reveal their rally driving skills within the framework of a truly semi-professional team.
Some 110,000 youngsters have tried their hand in the numerous regional selection trials that have been organised since 1994. In addition to sporting, medical and technical advice, the three budding champions who win each year's national final are given a car and budget to compete in the Peugeot 206 Trophy.
A number of the scheme's graduates have already made a name for themselves, including Nicolas Bernardi (1995 winner), Alexandre Bengu (1998) and Bryan Bouffier (1999).
Young mechanics aren't forgotten either. The Roger Claustres High School, which has become a genuine springboard for motor sport related careers, trains the students who service for the scheme's winners during their first season of competition. The majority of these young mechanics go on to work with some of France's most respected outfits.
FRENCH SUPER TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP:
For the fourth year running, Peugeot Sport will compete in the French Super Touring Car Championship with two works 406 Coupe Silhouettes. To achieve its unambiguous objective which is to win the title, two leading drivers, Soheil Ayari and Eric Hlary, respectively 4th and 5th in 2003. In addition to this programme, and in keeping with the spirit of the marque's young driver grooming process, 20-year old Robin Longechal sees his victory in the French Peugeot 206 CC Cup rewarded with a Peugeot drive in the French Super Touring Car Championship. He will learn the ropes driving a Gemo Sport-run 406 Coupe Silhouette, his objective being to learn as much as possible and to do at least as well as his predecessor, Julien Brich. His experience of single-seater racing, Formula France and the 206 CC will be a valuable asset.

FRENCH 206CC CUP:
New for 2004, two races will be organised at each round and drivers will have the possibility of sharing a single car, with only one result from the weekend (the best) to count towards the overall classification.
The bid for individual race victories and indeed for title success is always an extremely close-fought affair featuring spectacular, yet always sportsmanlike dicing.
It will no doubt once again be necessary to wait until the end of the seven-round season (14 races) to know the name of the winner of the 2004 Cup. Or rather winners for in addition to the prize for the outright victor, the best-placed junior (under-25) earns a drive for the following year.

PEUGEOT RC TOTAL DIESTER CUP:
Based on a derivative of the HDi-engined Peugeot RC Diamond concept car unveiled at the 2002 Geneva Show, the RC Cup is the main newcomer to the European circuit-racing scene in 2004. More than just a new series, the RC Cup is an innovative concept. The car itself is an astonishing Diester-HDi-DPF combination, with Diester accounting some 50% of the fuel mixture. The monocoque chassis is made from aluminium while power output of the 2.2 litre, central-rear located HDi engine is 175bhp. Combined with a sequential six-speed gearbox and particle filter, the weight of the car (empty) is 790kg. Its development not only shows that performance and respect for the environment are compatible, but also revealed the difficulty associated with the creation and launch of this type of product, which explains why the 2003 competition was cancelled. The 25 cars are today ready for their drivers to take their wheel for the seven-round series (based on selected rounds of FFSA's Super Series and Series weekends), as well as two non-championship excursions outside of France: Belgium (Spa) as part of the Peugeot Sport Encounters programme and in Spain (World Series, Valencia).
The RC Cup stands out as a key-in-hand formula since competitors only have to supply gloves, helmet and adrenalin!

PEUGEOT SPORT ENCOUNTERS
The Peugeot Sport motor sport 'Encounters' concept combines conviviality and low-cost competition. From the hundred or so participants who took part less than ten years ago, Peugeot Sport recorded close to 600 entrants in 2003. This success is due in part to the flexibility of the entry requirements since meetings are open to anyone aged over 16 on the proviso that they are members of a Peugeot Sport motor club, or else an employee of a PSA production plant. The competition is divided into two events: the 206 Sprint Cup and the 206 Relay Race. Both use the same car, namely the standard 1997cc Peugeot 206 S16 which produces 138bhp for a weight of 930kg. All comfort-related accessories are removed, safety features are added and all cars run on standard tyres. Meetings include two sprint races and two winners are proclaimed at the end of the season: the overall Cup winner and the best-classified under-21 year old. As the first step of Peugeot's driver grooming programme, the 206 Sprint Cup rewards the best youngster with a 206 CC to compete in the following year's 206 CC Cup. The 206 Relay Races take the form of 3-hour endurance races, including driver changes. In 2004, the meeting at Spa in Belgium will see the organisation of a 12-hour 'midday-midnight' race.
Six Peugeot Sport Encounters are scheduled for 2004, including the visit to Spa.

Τέλος πάντων, αν στο μετάφραζα θα κοπάναγες το κεφάλι σου στον τοίχο γιατί:
- 110,000 νέοι έχουν δοκιμάσει τις ικανότητές τους από το 1994 μέχρι σήμερα και οι καλύτεροι συμμετέχουν σε πρωταθλήματα με αυτοκίνητο και χρήματα της Peugeot! Ξανά και φέτος αυτός ο θεσμός (μήπως να πάμε στην Γαλλία;)
- Low Cost Competition. Κοινώς πρωτάθλημα "φτωχών".
Πρωτάθλημα με το 206 2.0l Gti όπου έχουν αφαιρεθεί όλοι οι εξοπλισμοί άνεσης και έχουν προστεθεί εξοπλισμοί ασφαλείας. Τα αυτοκίνητα τρέχουν μάλιστα με κανονικά λάστιχα. 600 συμμετοχές πέρυσι και δεν ξέρω και εγώ φέτος... Οι νικητές κερδίζουν ένα 206 CC για να τρέξουν την επόμενη χρονιά στο 206 CC Cup!
